gimme gimme : Del Toro Slippers

Yes, I am at the sophisticated age of 24... No, that, in no way, means that I am too old to make a holiday wish-list... One must-have that is up-there this holiday season is the fine handiwork of Del Toro Shoes. Based out of Miami Beach, Matthew Chevallard (the creative genius behind Del Toro Shoes) has concocted a slew of slippers, clad in ingenious color combos, stitch-work and all the footgear accoutrement my little heart desires... I mean - Did someone say glitter slippers!? I'm in...

trending : Playing with Plaid

Starbucks has made the switch to their seasonal red cups, the tree is up at City Hall, the signature big red bows have made their debut in Highland Village, which can only mean one thing in Houston... HOLIDAY SEASON IS HERE. Even though plaid is always a seasonal staple, it is back in a big way this go-round. Luckily, we are no longer limited to wearing plaid 90s grunge style, with a layered flannel or 80s spunk style, with an over-the-top tartan dress and lace to boot... Let's assess the options

Go smart and sharp by keeping it simple (stupid!). Pick a structured tartan silhouette and pair it with a solid hue.

Channel your inner east coast americana for a preppier look. Stick with classy staples like a wool, weighty scarf or couple a light-weight tartan flannel with a chunky knit and coated denim.

fashion houston find : Rolando Santana

Houston came, saw, and conquered the fashion world this past week during Fashion Houston. Even though H-Town may not be part of the "big four" fashion weeks, Fashion Houston continues to make a name for itself and seems to be on an aggressive, upward trajectory year after year.

The crowd is a sight to see in and of itself. If you have not had the pleasure of people watching at a Texas, celebutante-filled, event of the season, you truly have not lived... think big hair, bigger jewelry, and even bigger personalities... Not to mention style on top of style for days...

Besides the bigger names like Nicole Miller, Rebecca Taylor, David Peck, and Haute Hippie, I fell in love with a designer that, before Fashion Houston, was only faintly known to me... hellewwww Rolando Santana!

It is no secret that I am a girly (GIRLY) girl and this Mexico-based designer gets me. The collection was feminine, smart and perfectly tailored. Think pastels... and peplums... rich textured fabrics... and peplums... soft feathered fringe... and PEPLUMS

design dish : Donald Robertson

My latest Instagram infatuation has to be the handy work of Donald Robertson. This arteest seems to have creativity oozing out of him, whipping up pieces of artwork on the fly, using anything from a grocery bag, to money, to toilette paper. Aside from mediums, he doesn't discriminate with tools, utilizing acrylics, magazine clippings, and colored gaffer tape to boot.

Come to find out, this creativity is no secret to the industry. Donald Robertson is currently the Creative Director of Bobby Brown.  He’s also had stints at some of the most prestigious magazines, such as: Glamour, Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire.  In fact, he was one of three original founders of MAC cosmetics where he helped launch VivaGlam raising over $260 million globally in the fight against AIDS (ref Ocean Violet).

More recently, Robertson collaborated with Giles Deacon and the brand GILES (in his namesake) for his Spring/Summer 2014 collection, which debuted this past September at London Fashion Week. Deacon used Robertson's quintessential lip impressions on select textiles, which have since been seen on the likes of Georgia May Jagger, seen fondling the LOVE Magazine's mascot Clara the rabbit (below)

fun find : Hermes Knotting Cards

While it is a well known fact that Hermes scarves are a fashion staple, who knew they were so versatile!? Every scarf comes with one Knotting Card (or Cartes A Nouer), which teach you different tricks of the knotting trade. I hit the mother-load this past weekend when thrifting (in none other than Houston's 19th street) and swooped up an entire deck of these little cards of fashion styling wisdom. I am here to share the wealth - knot on!

crafting is a habit : Gallery Wall

Inspired by the abundance of gallery walls that seem to be popping up in interiors everywhere, I decided to take my house's art situation (or lack there of) into my own hands. I have observed that the key to a solid gallery wall is not necessarily the quality of artwork itself but how the different pieces work together. So, I decided to start with a couple of contributions, understanding that my gallery wall will be a work in progress, and hoping that it will grow from there organically.

To find provisions, I started with Adkins Architectural Antiques, one of the top architectural salvage dealers in not only Houston but the country. There, I sifted through loads of antique relics and ultimately landed on a number of antique postcards and matchbooks from across the country. Check out the final products...
