La Ville-Lumière v. The Big Apple
This post-Thanksgiving morning, after a much needed power walk with the mommy, I enjoyed lounging around, sipping coffee, and browsing though some of my favorite blogs. I found these illustrations contrasting NYC with Paris on the Topshop blog, insideout. All of the illustrations are done by Vahram Muatvan. His very own blog hosts many more countering images of two locales. My issue is both are so fabulous, which to choose??

The Vintage Mecca That is 4th Street
Last month, I had the pleasure of traveling up to 4th Street in Long Beach. 4th Street is undoubtedly home to the most fruitful vintage shops I have yet to encounter. As you cruise down the street, every store front seems to host even more vintage treasures than the one before... absolutely unreal! Below are some snaps of a few of my favorite spots on the block.
Furr dahling? If you are in the market for buying a vintage fur, this block is the spot to be. Most stores change out their merchandise for the relavant season. I noticed a number of them had extrordinary fur collections on display.
If you think vintage shopping can be overwhelming, Deja Vu is the place for you.It is not a stuffed as the others. They have done a good job of weeding through the junk, leaving a more sparce collection of pieces. But let's face it, sparce in relation to the other shops, is not actually sparce by any means. Quality versus quantity right? The pieces they do have are top notch!
La Bomba is undoubetedly one of my ultimate favs. While a lot of the spots on the row tend to be female focused, this spot has almost as much clothing for the retro woman as the retro man. Their shoe collection definitely trumps the other locales, hosting an entire WALL of funky boots and other treads. The best part of all, however, is their monthy PILE SALE. During this epic sale they invite vintage junkies to weed through their bottomless pile of clothes, selling each item for a rediculously reasonable price.
Meow, however, perfects the art of both quality and quantity. One of the larger shops on the street, this spot is absolutely filled from wall to wall with must-haves. Though overwhelming at first, once you get closer, you will notice that their swag is very organize. The pieces are catalogued by both their function and prospective time period. A couple of my favorite nooks are their vintage eye-glass case and their extrordinatry rhinestoned costume jewelry case. I also love their attention to detail with regards to the decoration of the interior. From the dressing room doors made out of recycled 60s refrigerator doors, to the over-the-top retro, neon sign dividing the shop, this spot is vintage perfection.
